Customize Your Procedure: Eyelid Surgery Options
Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper lids, lower lids, or even both. After a thorough examination of your bone structure, facial muscles, and the symmetry of the eyebrows, Dr. Hardesty will formulate a custom treatment plan for you. The incisions will be discreetly made within the folds of the eyelids or directly under the lower lid eyelashes. After healing those scars are virtually invisible even without makeup.
Incision Options:
- Upper Eyelids: The incision line will be placed at the natural eyelid crease. Then the excess skin, bulging fat, and muscle will be removed. A post-op ultrasound might be used to help with swelling and bruising.
- Lower Eyelids: Typically, the incision is made just below the eyelashes. The trimming of fat and excess skin will take place as well as tightening of the lower eyelid muscle. An alternative is when there is minimal excess lower eyelid skin or previous eyelid surgery is to place the access incision on the inside of the eyelid
Before & After
“Synergistic” Procedures
We often perform a brow lift with the upper and lower blepharoplasty. Why? As we age the weight of the brow increase and also falls. So, if you just perform a blepharoplasty the eyes may still look small with heavy misplaced low brows that can be interpreted as being angry or sad. Lifting the brows adds to the blepharoplasty by making the entire periorbital area perky, bright and awake looking.
Eyelid Surgery Recovery
Dr. Hardesty will provide you with a list of pre-operative and post-operative instructions to follow in order to provide for a smooth recovery. The results are nearly immediate as soon as swelling subsides. This time period is usually several days at which time you can return to normal daily activities. The advantages of eyelid surgery are that people do not notice that a procedure was performed, but the eyes appear refreshed, more attractive and appealing. Eyelid surgery is permanent and offers a more youthful appearance that usually last for many years.
